Good Morning Baltimore!

Thanks to cheap Southwest sales we snagged some 50 dollar tickets to Baltimore and made a spontaneous trip! This trip was so fun, and Chris got to check out three US capitals and I got to cross off some Bucket List items as well! This was a quick 2.5 day trip we made at the end of September!

Day 1

After we landed, we took the train into downtown, I made sure to book us a hotel that was right off the train by the convention center so we wouldn't have to use a taxi. Once we checked into our hotel, we left to walk to Lexington Market to get arguably the most famous crab cake in the United States from Faidley's Seafood.

Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint. My only regret, is not getting two of them. I would say be careful walking in this area, even during the day there are some shady characters that hang around. Usually I have a packed itinerary, but I could not find us anything we were interested in doing our first evening, but we lucked out because our hotel concierge gave us free Oriole vs Red Sox baseball tickets! The Oriole's stadium is an open concept and it is super cool! After we walked in we were met with free Oriole hats as well! I also got to treat myself to my all time favorite dessert some Dippin Dots. We watched the game and walked around the stadium then called it a night for our busy roadtrip in the morning.

Day 2

This day we rented a car from Enterprise and utilized their pick up service. Our original plan was to visit Dover, Delaware and Annapolis Maryland this day, BUT we spontaneously decided to drive to Harrisburg Pennsylvania to start! The drive was only about an hour and a half and we got to see the capital building of Pennsylvania. After that we decided to make the additional 20 minute drive to Hershey Park! Although the amusement park was closed, the chocolate world part was not! I definitely felt like a kid in a candy store and I LOVED LOVED this spot. Chris of course thought it was hilarious I was having so much fun since we were basically the only adults without a child in here. We signed up to make our own chocolate bar which you design what type of chocolate, toppings, and covering goes on a candy bar, design the label and get to take it and a souvenir tin case home! Through this you also get to watch your candy bar being made with the factory machines! After this we rode the chocolate experience ride which is an animated almost Disney land like ride that explains how the chocolate is made and tis origin. I loved this as well.

Once we were done at Hershey we drove through Lancaster to get to Dover. IT was so cool getting to see the Amish on the roads and watch them farm with old techniques. Our next stop was the capital of Delaware. This capital was neat because it was the location the very first people signed the Declaration of Independence! We then made our 2 hour drive back and decided to eat at an oyster bar on the harbor called Thames Street Oyster House. It was good however I wouldn't recommend it due to the expensive pricing. There are tons of bars and speakeasies in the inner harbor area and it was pretty neat to walk around this area.

Day 3

Today we drove to Annapolis, Maryland to visit their capital building. This is the cutest little town with cute boutique shops everywhere. We started by eating a delicious breakfast at Miss Shirley's Cafe, a diner that has been on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives!

This capital building is pretty cool because it is the oldest capital building still in use in the United States. It also is the site of George Washington's famous speech resigning from the Continental army after the American Revolution.

After this we headed back to Baltimore to see one of Edgar Allen Poe's homes. The workers here are full of Poe knowledge and he lived a very interesting life. This is the first home he lived with his cousin and later wife. Then we made our way to the cemetery with tons of old graves in. We put a penny on John Wilkes Booth's unmarked grave and the grounds keeper showed us the tombstone of the Ouija board creator. Spooky spooky. After that we ate a gourmet hot dog at Stuggys. This is a 100% recommendation it is sooo delicious!

Then it was time to head back home! Even though it was a quick trip it was a blast and just what the doctor ordered to take our minds off of the aftermath of Harvey.
