BERMUDA, Bahama come on pretty mama

Hey guys!! I am super excited to write this post because on this trip to paradise WE GOT ENGAGED! I am so excited and have already begun planning the big day. Here’s all about our adventure to Bermuda! Sorry it’s way late but I got distracted with wedding planning!

Day 1: The journey to the island in the Atlantic Ocean was a little long from Houston. We had to take a 3 hour flight to Newark then hop on a 2.5-hour flight to Bermuda. It took a total of about 7 travel hours.

We arrived around 4 p.m. and our hotel was very close to the airport. We stayed at Grotto Bay Resort which is the only all-inclusive option on the 15-mile-long island. We checked in and made all our dinner reservations for the entire week which I recommend because all restaurants on site require one for dinner. The all-inclusive is not a bad option it includes 3 meals, all beverages (alcoholic and non), tea time, tennis, a transportation pass and all non-motorized water sports. The resort is older but is recently remodeled and the beds and sheets were heavenly. The first day we just enjoyed the resort and hung out by the pool.

We had our first dinner in the more casual restaurant. Each dinner includes two appetizers (per person!), a meal, and a dessert. After dinner, the lounge bar turned into a dance party and they had a DJ! We didn’t stay out too late but enjoyed a few tunes.

Day 2- We woke up early this day and went straight to Cathedral Cave at opening. Chris insisted we wear clothes and not our bathing suits (for the awaiting surprise) even though I put up quite a fight to just be comfortable in a swimsuit lol. A family happened to be walking behind us. The cave was beautiful and the water is so blue you cannot describe it. Chris asked me to go down the steps and he would get a picture, then he asked the man to film our picture. He walked down and then he just got down on one knee! The backdrop was very romantic!

After squealing yes and taking a few pictures, we got breakfast. The hostess was extremely nice and congratulated us and brought us some chocolate covered strawberries. After breakfast, we finally got in bathing suits and went and jumped in the water in the cavern.

The water was freezing but refreshing! We hung out by the beach and paddle boarded and snorkeled around the resort then we went into Hamilton by bus.

The bus is great but is kind of slow. Be mindful, that most things are closed on Sundays so we didn’t get to visit as many shops as most. We shopped around then we took the ferry over to Dockyard (ferries are included in transportation pass as well!). Dockyard is a cruise ship hub so there are some fun shops and sites! Watch out at dockyard for some fun photo ops in phone booths! Also, fun photo ops are the moon rings that are all over the island. They are good luck for lovers!

When we returned to our hotel, Chris had another surprise prepared! Our room was covered in balloons and rose petals! He also had champagne delivered with chocolate covered strawberries, a bouquet of Bermuda flowers and a card! It was so special I cried! We changed into nice clothes for our reservation at the fancier restaurant.

Day 3- Day 3 was awesome! We had a Twizy reservation that we made before we arrived. A Twizy is an enclosed electric scooter and they are awesome! Non-residents are not allowed to rent cars so this is a fun safe alternative! The reservation is $125 for 24 hours which is worth it to be able to beach hop.

When you pick up the Twizy, they show you an app you can download with a map that you can use even if you don’t have data. The app shows all the charge points and things to do around the charge point. We started our adventure by going to Church Bay. The beach is down some cliffs so you walk down stairs to get to the little cove. We saw a school of parrot fish here! The sand seemed pink speckled, but the water is a little rough at this beach. The next stop was Horseshoe Bay. This beach is a little more touristy and has restrooms, chairs, that sort of vibe. After those beaches, we grabbed some lunch at Gulfstream while we charged our Twizy. The food was fantastic. We split a lobster sushi roll and a pizza.

I highly recommend this spot! Next, we hit up Elbow Beach.

This was my favorite beach of the island and possibly favorite of my life! It’s such a long beautiful beach.

After here we stopped by our hotel to change into dry clothes and ventured on to St George’s town. Here we saw the Unfinished Church.

Then it was time to check our Twizy in. You can turn the Twizy in at any time, so we turned it in and then rode the bus back to our resort. The last night our resort hosted a beach BBQ where a chef was grilling fresh meat right on the beach. The food spread was amazing. They had a live band that we danced to as well. We had briefly met a couple on the first night and saw them at the BBQ. We instantly became friends and decided to venture to the Swizzle Inn. The Swizzle Inn is a must do while in Bermuda and it was in walking distance of our resort. Our hotel also offered an array of board games and cards so after the Swizzle Inn, we stayed up late playing cards with our new friends.

Day 4- Our last day was so bitter sweet. We woke up and Chris wanted to jump into Cathedral Cavern one more time. Then we had reservations for a couples’ massage in the cave spa at our resort. There is a cavern that is private to spa treatments.

It was relaxing listening to the dripping cave noises while getting a massage. While we waited on our shuttle to the airport, we ate lunch at the Swizzle Inn. Then we had to say a sad Goodbye to this little slice of paradise.
